The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the latest Friends of the Earth Scotland report, On The Move; highlights the report's finding that a significant increase in public transport investment could create 22,000 direct and 416,000 indirect jobs in the transport sector while reducing emissions; further highlights the report's findings that increased investment in public transport would bring significant economic, social and environmental benefits, including by improving air quality, boosting people's health and wellbeing, supporting local high streets and local communities, and reducing inequalities; notes the report's estimate that Scotland needs to move around six billion car kilometres a year by 2030 to public transport, walking and cycling in order to meet its carbon targets; considers that transport is Scotland's largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and that any credible plans to tackle climate change will require delivering a transformative modal shift from car to public transport and active travel, and notes the report's calls on the Scottish Government to increase public transport funding as a matter of urgency and implement the recommendations of the report as soon as possible.
