Rededication Ceremony to Mark the Centenary of Ardrossan War Memorial

That the Parliament recognises the rededication of Ardrossan War Memorial to mark the centenary of its unveiling on 5 May 1923; understands that, in 1923, the community of Ardrossan came together to fund, design and construct a memorial to local servicemen who had died during the conflict of 1914 to 1918; notes that several thousand people gathered on South Beach to participate in the dedication of the memorial, as the Shipyard Cadets’ Pipe Band led a procession from Hill Street to the memorial, where Reverend R P Fairlie read out the names of the 150 Ardrossan men who had died in the First World War; recognises that the memorial consists of a tall Cullaloe freestone cross with Celtic designs at the top, with one panel showing Robert the Bruce and Admiral Wood, representing war, and another panel depicting David Livingstone, Robert Burns and James Watt, representing peace, and congratulates the Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston branch of Legion Scotland on its work in organising the rededication of the memorial and in bringing together the community of Ardrossan to mark this important moment in the town’s history.
