Lodged by Clare Adamson (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 26 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises May 2023 as National Walking Month; understands that walking is one of the easiest ways to improve physical and mental health, and helps people stay connected to their community; further understands that walking helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, while reducing air pollution and traffic congestion; notes that the Scottish Government’s Let’s Get Scotland Walking - The National Walking Strategy sets out a vision for how everyone can benefit from walking as part of their everyday life within a welcoming and safe environment; acknowledges that charities, such as Paths for All and Get Walking Lanarkshire, support, provide training to and enable the empowerment of local groups to provide dementia-friendly, buggy and health walks, and thanks all the community groups and volunteers for what it sees as their dedication and hard work, ensuring that paths are safe and accessible for all.
