Major Transformation Plans for Dumbarton’s Glencairn House

That the Parliament welcomes the reported plans to transform Dumbarton’s Glencairn House, including an extension to three storeys, which will accommodate the new library and museum; understands that these plans will restore the current structure and bring the vacant property, which is the oldest building in Dumbarton, back into use, providing access to computers, study areas and meeting spaces; further understands that the natural environment will be integrated into these plans, with a separate children’s library pavilion at the back of the building, opening onto a library garden concentrating on the existing tree, which will be referred to as the "storytelling tree"; understands that displays will be present throughout the building, and will feature items from the Council’s museum, archive, and local history collections that portray Dumbarton’s history, including items from 193AD and 900AD; believes that the approval of these plans signifies a landmark in restoring the property, as a result of it being one of three projects awarded a share of £19.9 million in West Dunbartonshire from the UK Government's Levelling Up funding, and appreciates the work and dedication put in by the teams involved in order to undertake this project, and more importantly preserve such a historic building.
