Newmains Celebrates 50 Years of the Annual Gala Day

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Newmains and District Gala Day Committee on celebrating its 50th anniversary; understands that the Gala Day will take place on 10 June 2023, with many events being hosted across the community during the week leading up to the day itself; further understands that Gala Days were originally held to mark successful wins for workers’ rights or simply to raise some cheer in the country’s industrial communities during tough economic times; recognises the generosity of the local community and the businesses that have helped ensure the event's success, and thanks all volunteers for their hard work, dedication and meticulous planning over the last 50 years in organising this community event.
