The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dumfriesshire dairy farmer, Alistair Marshall, from Carrutherstown, on his plans to cycle around Scotland during the month of June 2023 to raise awareness and vital funds for the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET); understands that Alastair, who is Chair of the RHET, will be cycling through 13 of the RHET countryside initiative areas to raise a target of £10,000 for the trust, which aims to connect young people with farming, agriculture and the working countryside; further understands that the RHET works with partners to provide and deliver world-leading learning opportunities for all of Scotland’s young people, between the ages of three to 18, about, in and through the Scottish agricultural environment and the countryside, and that it provides the opportunity for every child in Scotland to learn about food, farming and the countryside to create a wider understanding of the environmental, economic and social realities of rural Scotland; welcomes the fact that the RHET takes 21,000 young people onto farms and estates throughout Scotland, and that 38,000 pupils have a farmer come and talk to their class, during each academic year; wishes Alastair every success as he undertakes this fundraising work, and encourages all who are able to consider supporting his fundraising efforts by visiting justgiving.com/campaign/RHET-ChairmansCycleChallenge.
