Free School Meals for All Inverclyde Primary School Pupils

Lodged by Neil Bibby (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 11 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises Inverclyde Council’s Education and Communities Committee's decision to extend free school meals to all P6 and P7 children in the local authority from August 2023; considers that Inverclyde was able to achieve this because it has one of the best education estates in Scotland, and that it builds on the council’s already commendable action of broadening the qualifying criteria for school meals, making it more generous than statutory requirements; understands that this will mean every single primary school child in Inverclyde will be able to access a healthy, nutritious lunch in the comfort of one of Inverclyde’s new or refurbished schools without cost to their families; congratulates the council and its staff, and wishes them well as they roll out the policy.
