Congratulating the Greenock Telegraph’s Community Champions Award Winners

That the Parliament applauds all those nominated in the Greenock Telegraph’s fourth annual Community Champions Awards, which were held on 5 May 2023, with special congratulations to all the winners; understands that the awards recognise people who go above and beyond to help others through fundraising, drawing attention to important issues, volunteering, or showing incredible courage, and that more than 200 people gathered in Greenock Town Hall to hear inspirational stories from the finalists of all ages; recognises that Gillian Duffy won Sporting Champion of the Year after overcoming serious health problems to become an ambassador for women’s football, and Lauren Hair won Teacher of the Year for her dedication to teaching youngsters in her dance school; further recognises that Eva Campbell, Farrah McLaughlin and Jessica Glover took the Little Champion of the Year award, while Inverclyde Maternity Unit scooped Health & Care Champion of the Year, which, it considers, was made more special as the event took place on International Day of the Midwife; recognises that Margaret Sneddon won Senior Community Champion of the Year, while baby sensory firm, Glow Bambino, won the Business Champion of the Year award; further recognises that singer-songwriter and harpist, Chloe Matharu, won the Live Music Award, Chris Thomson and his family took the Charity Champion of the Year honour, after raising almost £100,000 for charity, and that Tele editor, David Goodwin, presented the Judge's Special Recognition Award to the family of the late Carol Mountain, who sadly passed away in December 2022, in recognition of her commitment to helping local causes as Morrisons’ community champion; recognises that young charity champion, Skye McCabe, won the Outstanding Community Spirit title for her fundraising efforts, Taylor Kitchen received the Heart of Gold award after raising hundreds of pounds to buy special cuddly toys to comfort sick children who spend time in hospital, and that Francis Quinn took the overall Community Champion of the Year title for her many years as a volunteer at Branchton Community Centre; thanks all the finalists for all that they do in Inverclyde, and further thanks all of those who are committed to raising money for good causes and who give up their time and energy to volunteer with local organisations across Inverclyde.
