Ayrshire Students Organise Walk for Mental Health Awareness Week

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the efforts of Ayrshire College HND Fitness, Health, and Exercise students in organising the Walk 4 Lionheart event as part of Ayrshire College’s award-winning #PassingPositivity initiative for Mental Health Awareness Week and national walking month; understands that Ayrshire College’s #PassingPositivity mental health initiative has received national recognition and awards for its fundraising efforts and awareness of mental health, particularly the benefits that it believes physical activity can have on a person’s mental health; further understands that the 10-mile walk from Kilwinning Campus to Kilmarnock Campus in memory of former student and professional wrestler, Adrian ‘Lionheart’ McCallum, will raise vital funds for mental health charities, Beautiful Inside and Out, Megan’s Space and The Kris Boyd Charity, which were chosen by Ayrshire College students; notes that Megan’s Space seeks to provide mental wellbeing support to young people up to the age of 25 who are experiencing challenges with their mental health and understands that it has helped over 150 young people since the charity was established; further notes that Beautiful Inside and Out supports bereaved parents and siblings of suicide victims by organising fully-funded counselling, as well as play, drama, music, and art therapy; understands that The Kris Boyd Charity’ was established in 2018 by Former Kilmarnock, Rangers and Scotland striker, Kris Boyd to help those with mental health issues through education and engagement with others when they are in need of help; commends the HND Fitness, Health, and Exercise students at Ayrshire College for their dedication to raising awareness of mental health, and wishes all the participants well in the Walk 4 Lionheart Event on 19 May 2023.
