The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the table tennis players from the 2nd Port Glasgow Boys’ Brigade (BB) on being named champions after seeing off competition from across the UK in the organisation’s British table tennis final, held in April 2023, after the tournament was halted for a couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that the six-team event was held in Widnes, near Liverpool, with the Port boys competing against fellow Scottish representatives, 12th Inverness, as well as groups from Northern Ireland and England, beating 4th Newtonabbey and 26th Leeds to progress to the semi-finals, where they overcame 133rd London to make the final and go on to defeat the 1st Greenisland team, from Northern Ireland, to lift the trophy; appreciates that the A team, consisting of Joseph Adams, Jack Wilson, Darren Lowe and reserve player, Ben Hammerman, had already been crowned district champions and Scottish champions in 2022-23, having lost only once during this session to a team of senior players, while the B team, made up of Jake Denyer, Sandy McQuilken and Ben Hammerman, were third in the district competition and reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Championship; applauds all the players on their success, and wishes them all the best for the 2023-24 session.
