World Brain Tumour Awareness Day 2023

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that World Brain Tumour Awareness day is recognised on 8 June every year to continue to raise awareness and promote education around the condition; considers that how brain tumours develop in both the paediatric and adult brain are likely to reveal important insights about brain tumour biology and may identify new therapeutic opportunities; understands that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer; believes that there is still significant progress to be made in the research, understanding and treatment of brain tumours; considers that, for this progress to be made, silo thinking must be challenged and cross departmental collaboration is needed for an effective and promising therapeutic translational pipeline from scientist’s bench to patient’s bedside to be developed; commends the work of Brain Tumour Research in supporting individuals, research and campaigning, and in growing its network of sustainable research networks across the UK, and wishes it well as it progresses with its paediatric-focused research at its newly announced and fourth dedicated research centre in the coming year.
