The motion

That the Parliament notes that pupils from Eaglesham Primary School, in Eastwood, will be taking part in Scottish Opera's Primary Schools Tour programme for spring 2023; understands that Eaglesham primary pupils will be staging their production at the beginning of June 2023, and performing The Curse of MacCabbra Opera House; recognises that the objective of the company's children's operas initiative is to put in place an enjoyable and creative learning experience, with pupils taking part in a day-long music and theatre workshop, before performing for parents and guests; acknowledges that schools that take part in the endeavour can make use of highly-trained facilitators and teaching artists to work with the pupils or, alternatively, to work on their own with Scottish Opera's resources; understands that both The Last Aliens and The Curse of MacCabbra Opera House have formed part of the Primary Schools Tour for Scottish Opera's 60th anniversary season, with the latter of the two being the focus of the period from February to June 2023; understands that, after reflecting on online primary school projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, Scottish Opera has adopted a hybrid approach for the latest season, with both The Last Aliens and The Curse of MacCabbra Opera House also available as online resources; notes that, since 1971, more than half a million primary school pupils in Scotland have taken part in a Scottish Opera tailored specifically for school-age children; further notes that Scottish Opera's Primary Schools Tour for Spring 2023 will visit a total of 80 schools, in 19 council areas, throughout the nation; congratulates teachers and pupils at Eaglesham Primary for their engagement with Scottish Opera's tour, and wishes the school every success with the event in June.
