Motherwell's Olympian Swimmer

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Olympians Gallery at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre in Motherwell; understands that the opening of the gallery marked the 75th anniversary of the London games, and the incredible members of the Motherwell club, who represented Great Britain in 1948; further understands that the gallery tells the story of the town’s famous Olympian swimmers, who dominated British swimming for 20 years, during the 1940s and 50s, and celebrates their amazing achievements as World Record holders and World Champions; notes that North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre lies on the site formerly occupied by Motherwell baths, which played an important part in the local community, and now houses a wealth of historical artefacts and documents; further notes that the gallery was funded by the Scottish Government through Museum and Galleries Scotland, and thanks all the local volunteer community curators for bringing the collection together.
