Stewartry Rugby Club Records One of its Most Successful Seasons

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Stewartry Rugby Club after it recorded one of its most successful seasons of all time, and was one of the best performing clubs in Scotland in the 2022-23 season, with both its men's and women's teams victorious on the pitch; recognises that Stewartry Sirens, which has been competing for only 10 years, has just gained promotion to the SRU Premier League after winning the league title, undefeated, and will now once again be playing competitive rugby against the best women’s teams in Scotland; notes that, not to be outdone, the men’s team has also just completed a remarkable double triumph in winning the Scottish Rugby Men’s National Shield, following an exciting final against East Kilbride, which was played at Murrayfield Stadium, the home of Scottish Rugby; acknowledges that the team was roared on to a 30-24 victory by more than 700 vocal fans who travelled from Dumfries and Galloway to watch the game, which was described as Stewartry’s finest moment; notes that, days later, the club founded in Castle Douglas in 1970, won promotion from Tennent’s National Division 4 play-off, after defeating Ellon Rugby Club 30-24, in a match staged at Burnbrae, Milngavie; wishes the staff, players and fans every success in the coming season, and recognises the good work carried out by club members within the community, including an excellent mental health scheme to help players and members get advice and support during difficult times.
