Lodged by Mercedes Villalba Standard Motion 14 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges the latest data on hen harrier populations from a new paper led by the RSPB and published in the journal, Biological Conservation; encourages the protection and conservation of these native birds; understands that, according to the findings of the research, hen harriers are living on average only 121 days; shares alarm that the main cause of death is reportedly illegal killing linked to grouse moor management; welcomes the Scottish Land and Estates’ recent comment that "any persecution of hen harriers – and any form of wildlife crime generally – is abhorrent", and calls for potential reforms to be fully enforceable to reduce raptor persecution and encourage population recovery of what it considers to be this important native predator.
