Inverclyde Sports Personality of the Year Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates all of the nominees and winners at the 2023 Inverclyde Sports Personality of the Year Awards; recognises that Coach of the Year was jointly awarded to Kyara Mitchell for swimming and Rhys McCole for boxing, Disabled Sports Personality of the Year was awarded to Emma Thompson for swimming, School Team of the Year was jointly awarded to Wemyss Bay Primary School’s cross country team and Clydeview Academy’s athletics team, Team of the Year went to Greenock Wanderers Rugby Club’s Under 15s team, Young Sports Personality of the Year went to Jayla Kepler for golf, Adult Volunteer of the Year went to Eileen Gowans for swimming, Club of the Year went to Glenpark Harriers running club, Senior Sports Personality of the Year was awarded to Sam Sharkey for swimming, and the Legend Award was presented to Janice Hendrie for her dedicated work with Inverclyde Athletics Club; appreciates that some of the biggest names in local sport, including women’s footballer, Amy Muir, and TV figure skating star, Angela Egan, also took part in the event, which has now been running for more than a decade; believes that Inverclyde Sports Personality of the Year Awards are a great way for the community to celebrate the achievements of local sporting champions, clubs and the efforts of volunteers and coaches, and wishes all the local sportspeople and teams all the best for the future.
