Friends of Monklands Canal Wins Most Improved Walking Place Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the community group, Friends of Monklands Canal, on winning the award for Most Improved Walking Place at the Scottish Walking Awards; understands that the group was recognised for transforming a muddy, overgrown 1.5-mile route that connects the town of Coatbridge to numerous new housing developments in North Lanarkshire; praises the group for its environmental initiative, collecting nearly 5,000 bags of rubbish from the canal; commends the group for its efforts to upgrade paths, benches and bins along the route, and believes that community groups, like Friends of Monklands Canal, are invaluable for creating a sense of community in towns and villages across Scotland.
