Recognising the Vital Work of Volunteers at Arbroath Lifeboat and their Campaign for an All-weather Vessel

The motion

That the Parliament recognises, during Volunteers' Week 2023, the dedicated Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers who help save lives at sea; notes that the volunteer crew at one of Scotland’s oldest lifeboat stations, in Arbroath, which was established 220 years ago, faces losing their all-weather lifeboat, following a review by the RNLI; understands that the community in Arbroath and the volunteer lifeboat crew are currently campaigning to retain their all-weather lifeboat, and are appealing to the RNLI to review its decision not to replace Arbroath’s all-weather vessel when it is decommissioned; further understands that the decision not to station an all-weather lifeboat in Arbroath represents the downgrading of the station to an inshore lifeboat station, and understands that the highly experienced members of the Arbroath Lifeboat crew believe that the open Atlantic 85 rigid inflatable boat that the station is set to receive is not suitable for the Arbroath role without the support of an all-weather boat, and that the lack of an all-weather lifeboat could jeopardise the safety of volunteers in Arbroath.
