Shetland Islands Council Catering Recognised with Award

That the Parliament congratulates Shetland Islands Council’s catering team on being awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Catering award at the national Assist FM conference 2023; understands that the Assist FM conference, which was held in Glasgow on 18 and 19 May 2023, brought together delegates from the facilities management sector from the 32 Scottish local authorities; celebrates the work of Shetland Islands Council’s catering team, working closely with local suppliers and food producers in Shetland; considers that this creates multiple benefits, including the reduction of food miles, and supports local producers through serving locally-sourced milk, eggs, lamb, fish, bread, fruit and vegetables in schools; notes that Shetland Islands Council serves over 2,200 meals in schools each day during term-time; understands that Shetland Islands Council is one of only two councils in Scotland holding the Food for Life Bronze Award across all its school settings, which, it believes, recognises the commitments of organisations to serve fresh, local produce in their schools; congratulates the catering team at Shetland Islands Council on receiving this award, and wishes everyone in the team well in their work.
