Congratulating the University of Strathclyde’s Young Strathclyder Primary Programme

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the University of Strathclyde on the inaugural year of its Young Strathclyder primary programme; notes that in its pilot year, the programme has worked with over 850 pupils in P6 and P7 from 10 primary schools in Glasgow; understands that pupils have been rewarded throughout their learner journey, with the initiative designed to raise awareness of higher education, support attainment and offer learning opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds; notes that 2023 involved over 80 student mentors, many of whom are from widening access backgrounds, who delivered subject-related, fun learning activities; acknowledges that a graduation ceremony was held at the University of Strathclyde on 31 May 2023 to celebrate the pupils that have completed all the activities; understands that seven subject-specific Accelerate Challenges will be taking place for senior pupils over the summer, with a programme for S2 students launching in 2023-24; commends all those involved in the pilot year of the Young Strathclyder’s primary programme, and wishes them well going forward.
