Orkney Regains Junior Inter-County Title

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the young Orkney athletes on regaining the Stuart Cup after victory over their Shetland counterparts in the annual junior inter-county competition on 3 to 4 June 2023; considers that there were a number of fantastic performances by individual athletes, but believes that it was the collective team performance that was crucial for Orkney’s victory; acknowledges the contribution made by the Shetland team to another memorable occasion, with victories in football, hockey, and swimming; congratulates the Orkney athletics squad, who overcame their Shetland counterparts 54 points to 42.5; notes in particular the performance of the Orcadian netball squad in the deciding game, which was described as “unbelievable” by the Shetland commentator after Orkney won by 56 points to 25 to overtake the Shetland total at the last gasp; pays tribute to the work done by the Orkney and Shetland junior inter-county associations and all of the volunteers who make this competition possible, and looks forward to many more successful years of sporting rivalry ahead and the forming of lifelong friendships.
