The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Southern Upland Moorland Group on what it understands is its highly popular and successful Estates that Educate programme for young people across the south of Scotland; understands that, since 2016, when the project was first launched, it has grown to involve three different regions of Scotland, with more than 2,000 young people taking part in practical activities focusing on rural skills for the future; considers that the children had the opportunity to try fun rural activities, such as clay pigeon shooting, sheep shearing and fly fishing, to help enrich their understanding of the rural environment and the careers available from it; understands that the activities on offer for the school children to try out were worked on in conjunction with local schools and Developing the Young Workforce, to fully take into account what the reported shortage of the rural workforce can be attributed to and where it can be improved; notes that the Southern Upland Moorland Group is working to help ensure the viability of rural communities, and wishes it continued success with the programme into the future.
