Scottish Universities at the Forefront of Delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates 10 Scottish universities for their performance in the global rankings on Sustainable Development Goals, which was produced by the Times Higher Education for 2023 and published on 31 May; understands that the Impact Rankings establish the universities that play a leading international role in support of peace, prosperity and sustainability for people and the planet, with universities being assessed across four areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching; notes that a record 10 universities from Scotland participated in the rankings for the first time, with four Scottish institutions now featuring in the top 100, including north east Scotland institutions: the University of Aberdeen and the University of Dundee; understands that this strong performance places Scotland sixth out of the top 100 nations when it comes to delivery of sustainable development goals; considers that this is a powerful demonstration of the commitment of universities to sustainability and the positive impact that it believes universities have nationally and internationally; believes that none of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of staff and students, and thanks them for their valuable contributions to communities and society.
