Befriend Motherwell Receives National Lottery Funding to Combat Loneliness
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Befriend Motherwell SCIO on receiving £184,996 from the National Lottery Community Fund; understands that the funding will allow Befriend Motherwell SCIO to continue its befriending service, as well as extend its service for the next three years; further understands that the befriending service provides support to over-65s across Motherwell who find themselves living in isolation, and currently supports almost 200 people; considers that loneliness was a public health crisis before COVID-19, but that it is now so much worse; believes that the cost of living crisis is also having a devastating impact; thanks the National Lottery Community Fund and all the befriending volunteers across Scotland for their dedication and commitment to the community, and wishes them all the best for the future.
