Solidarity with Dundee Bus Workers

That the Parliament believes that the people of Dundee deserve a reliable bus service, and that this is essential to the economic prosperity and environmental sustainability of the city; considers that Dundee’s bus service is unreliable, with frequent cancellations and driver shortages or redeployments; recognises Unite the Union members’ campaign for a fair pay increase at McGill’s Xplore Dundee; notes with concern reports of employees’ contracts being transferred to companies other than McGill’s without any prior discussion, the introduction of zero-hours contracts, the threat of "fire and rehire", reports of trade union intimidation, and the eviction of the Unite officials from their office at Dock Street; further notes the call from Dundee residents for the bus network to be returned to public ownership, so that what it sees as the profit motive can be removed from this vital public service; believes that a situation in any workplace in which there is a systematic removal of workers' rights cannot be allowed; further believes that bus drivers deserve decent pay and security in their employment, and that they should not feel intimidated at work, and calls on Dundee City Council to ensure that its partners uphold the Scottish Government’s Fair Work Agenda.
