The motion

That Parliament notes the retirement of Aberdeen Town Sergeant, Raymond Leiper, after 48 years in the role; understands that Raymond has carried out a range of duties, including leading civic processions down Union Street, carrying the mace into council meetings, acting as master of ceremonies at civic receptions, supporting Freedom of the City events, as well as having chauffeured and served the city’s 14 lord provosts since 1975; recognises the excellent service that Raymond has given to the City of Aberdeen, which has led to him being a well-recognised and well-loved figure at civic events, and wishes Raymond a long and happy retirement.
