Stonehaven Sea Salt Co is Finalist at North East Scotland Food And Drink Awards 2023

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Stonehaven Sea Salt Co, which was a finalist in the category of Best New Product for Emerging Business at the North East Scotland Food and Drink Awards on 8 June 2023; understands that Stonehaven Sea Salt Co started producing artisan sea salt in Stonehaven in 2022, and is the only manufacturer of its kind in the north east; notes that the product nominated for the award, Stonehaven Sea Salt 75g Tin, is made in small batches from the local North Sea water a few miles off Stonehaven, which ensures the purest seawater is collected, and that the water is then filtered and UV-treated, before being evaporated slowly to form salt crystals; further notes that this process produces whole sea salt, which is not artificially dried and therefore retains around 4-5% moisture, which gives a slightly different texture to refined or dried salts and reduces the carbon footprint, and congratulates all nominees and winners for showcasing the best of the north east’s thriving food and drink sector.
