The motion

That the Parliament recognises 19 to 25 June 2023 as Myeloma Awareness Week; understands that myeloma is a less common, incurable blood cancer, which has seen an increase in the incidence rate of 33% in the UK between 1993 and 2018; further understands that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a drop in the number of people diagnosed with myeloma in the UK, with confirmed cases down by 851 compared to pre-COVID-19 expectations; considers that although the number of diagnoses has started to recover, the number has not accounted for those undiagnosed during the pandemic; notes that evidence from Myeloma UK shows that a delay in diagnosis can have a significant impact on quality of life; welcomes the work being undertaken by Myeloma UK to raise awareness of the symptoms of myeloma, and calls for MSPs to support Myeloma UK’s campaign to "Find the 851" by raising awareness of symptoms and encouraging constituents to rule themselves out.
