72-year-old Dorothy Smith Swims Over 1,700 Lengths for Diabetes UK
The motion
That the Parliament applauds Auchinleck’s Dorothy Smith for her fundraising efforts to raise awareness of, and funds for, Diabetes UK by taking part in the charity's Swim 22 challenge, which saw her swim 22 miles at her local leisure centre; notes that Dorothy is 72 years old and that, to complete the challenge, she swam the equivalent length of the English Channel, swimming over 1,700 lengths; understands that she chose this charity following a loved one’s recent diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and the recent passing of her husband’s daughter-in-law’s father; further understands that Dorothy has surpassed her initial target of £220, and wishes her continued success in her fundraising endeavours.
