Peeblesshire Foodbank
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the crisis facing Peeblesshire Foodbank as demand for its service has increased by 97% for the quarter March-May 2023 compared to the same period in 2022; further notes that the increase in demand among families with children is even higher at 115%; understands that donations have dropped significantly, meaning that the Foodbank had to buy 31% of its stock in the last quarter at a cost of around £1,000 per month; commends the Scottish Government’s Scottish Child Payment for helping to ease the strain for families with children, but considers that this is merely mitigation and that the full economic powers to tackle poverty in Scotland remain in the hands of the UK Government, and encourages everyone who can to make a donation of food or money to Peeblesshire Foodbank.
