Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Appliance Cuts

Lodged by Pam Duncan-Glancy Standard Motion 18 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament is concerned by the news of the decommissioning of fire appliances in the Glasgow area; considers that areas like Maryhill and Govan would face dangers if made to reduce to one appliance; understands that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is required to make £11 million in cuts to meet its budgetary obligations for 2023-24, and that it is expected to make further cuts in the coming years to continue balancing its budget; supports calls from concerned residents to reverse plans to reduce appliances that are considered essential, and calls on the Scottish Government to intervene and to urgently meet with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to discuss how best to mitigate the crisis facing it.
