Shetland Nurse Wins RCN Scotland Student Nurse of the Year Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Lois Gaffney, from Shetland, on winning the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Student Nurse of the Year award; commends Lois for this achievement; congratulates the other finalists on their nominations; recognises that Lois graduated from The Open University (OU) in Scotland’s nursing programme with a first class honours degree, while working as a healthcare support worker; understands that studying with the OU allowed Lois not only to continue to work while studying, but also avoided her having to move to the mainland, thereby enabling her to spend more time with her partner and daughter; notes that Lois was nominated for the RCN Council of Deans Student Leadership programme; further notes that Lois is now employed as a staff nurse with NHS Shetland, and wishes Lois and all the other finalists all the very best for the future.
