Robert Smith Named as Rotary Community Champion 2023

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Robert Smith, Founder of Group Recovery Aftercare Community Enterprise (GRACE), on being recognised as one of only seven Community Champions by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland in 2023; understands that these annual awards celebrate unsung heroes whose vision and hard work make an outstanding difference in the spheres of community and humanitarian support; thanks the Kirkintilloch Rotary for what it sees as a fantastic nomination of Robert Smith; delights that Robert recognised the need for a safe space for people who were recovering from all kinds of trauma and launched activities in 2012, with engagement now growing to a typical attendance of 150 members who are involved in various activities in the Hillhead and Auchinairn areas every week; recognises the valuable contribution of team members, paid and unpaid, in ensuring that this peer-led support continues to encourage a greater sense of wellbeing and helps build towards stable futures for everyone who takes part; applauds the sense of ownership and development of members whose positive experience of the group activities ripples outwards into the lives of their families, friends and wider communities, and wishes Robert and everyone at GRACE continued enjoyment and personal growth as they continue to thrive in the Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency and beyond.
