Commending GRACE Volunteer, James Williamson

The motion

That the Parliament recognises community-based volunteer, James Williamson, who joined Kirkintilloch-based charity, Group Recovery Aftercare Community Enterprise (GRACE), in 2015, and has consistently used his time, energies and insight for the benefit of others through leading workshops about mental health wellness for statutory and voluntary organisations; understands that GRACE is a prestigious peer-led charity in East Dunbartonshire, which supports people to rebuild their lives after trauma of any kind; recognises the investment of James’ time in identifying and attending training in first aid, paediatric first aid, health and safety, food hygiene, drug and alcohol awareness, cancer awareness and other subjects; applauds that James has worked hard to overcome feelings of nervousness in order to develop public speaking skills so that he can share his experience and learnings with others; acknowledges the encouragement and support within GRACE that has enabled James to develop his skills and experience in such an impactful way; notes James' particular involvement in men's mental health wellbeing as an approachable, knowledgeable peer; extends its gratitude to all who volunteer through community-based groups such as GRACE, and sends its very best wishes to James for continued fulfilment as a role model and friend to many.
