City of Glasgow College Cuts

Lodged by Pam Duncan-Glancy Standard Motion 11 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes with regret that up to 100 jobs at the City of Glasgow College are at risk of compulsory redundancy; further notes with concern that colleges have reportedly suffered reductions of over £100 million of funding over the past 10 years; is further concerned by the Scottish Government’s decision to reverse its £26 million funding commitment to colleges; urges the Scottish Government to restore the £26 million and provide further support to colleges to prevent any compulsory redundancies; believes that compulsory redundancy is contrary to the previous Scottish Government policy of no redundancies in central government public sector; understands that the City of Glasgow College branch of EIS-FELA has put forward alternative proposals that it believes better mitigate the funding restrictions in the college; urges the City of Glasgow College to engage meaningfully with EIS-FELA on the proposals before compulsory redundancies are pursued, and believes that the college should provide justification for any decision that it makes not to give effect to the alternative proposals.
