Recognising the Outstanding Achievements and Impact of the Cateran Yomp 2023
The motion
That the Parliament recognises and salutes the efforts of the record 1,200 participants, aged 16 to 76, from countries as diverse as the US, Lebanon, Ukraine and New Zealand, who took part in the 24-hour Cateran Yomp in Perthshire; acknowledges the substantial £300,000 of funds raised for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the national charity of the British Army, which provides essential support to serving soldiers, veterans, and their immediate families; commends the resilience and teamwork of all the participants, who traversed the challenging 22, 36 or 54 miles of the Cateran Trail in less than 24 hours, contributing towards the charity's mission; pays particular tribute to the 2023 ambassador, Royal Artillery veteran, Lee Harris-Hamer, who it considers exemplifies the transformative power of the charity, using the grant that he received to start a successful cleaning business after a career-ending injury; recognises the invaluable contributions of sponsors, including The Famous Grouse, Dover Fuelling Solutions, Arnold Clark Car and Van Rental, Land Rover Pentland, and Leonardo; appreciates local sponsors, such as Castle Water, Mackie’s of Scotland and Tunnocks, for their support, and celebrates the significant impact of the Cateran Yomp, which has, it understands, over its 12 editions, raised millions of pounds and helped thousands of army family members across 45 countries, from infants to centenarians.
