Kilmarnock-area Children and Young People Celebrate Success at Second Annual Clean, Green Education Awards

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that 14 Kilmarnock-area schools have achieved Bronze and Highly Commended Bronze Awards in the second annual Clean, Green Education Awards; believes that children and young people play a vital role in addressing climate change; understands that the awards were created as part of a commitment to recognise the achievements of young people in addressing climate change during the virtual Youth Climate Conference in 2021; notes that the awards are designed to encourage action across the key themes of the climate change strategy, which are energy, transport, waste and natural environment, and recognise the journey towards achieving net zero; recognises that Annanhill Primary School, Crosshouse Primary School and Communication Centre, Darvel Primary School, Dunlop Primary School and Fenwick Primary School were awarded special recognition for partnership working, Hillhead Primary School was awarded special recognition for natural environment, Hurlford Primary School was awarded special recognition for embedding sustainable education in the curriculum, James Hamilton Primary School and Sgoil Na Coille Nuaidh, Kilmaurs Primary School were awarded special recognition for pupil leadership (primary), and Kilmarnock Academy, Nether Robertland Primary School, St Sophia’s Primary School, Stewarton Academy and Whatriggs Primary School also received awards; notes that projects underway at the schools include active travel initiatives, action to reduce food waste, organising litter picks for the wider community and organising a local Climate Change Conference; recognises the main sponsors of the Clean, Green Education Awards, which are East Ayrshire Leisure, McGills Buses, Enva Waste and Vattenfall, as well as the partners, Keep Scotland Beautiful and Eco Schools, which play a key role in the delivery of the awards and programme respectively; congratulates each school on its success, and wishes them all the best in the future.
