The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Carron Valley Community Woodland (Valley Renewables Group) on winning a Highly Commended award in the Community Woodlands Award category at the Scotland's Finest Woods Awards for its work on woodland next to the Carron Valley Reservoir; understands that the Carron Valley Community Woodland consists of 52 acres of woodland, which the community group has developed into a community asset that benefits nature, residents and visitors alike, including the planting of more than 9,000 native trees and creation of new paths; notes that the woodland was purchased through the work and support of the Valley Renewables Group and Carron Valley and District Community Council, through funding from the Scottish Land Fund, and with support from the local windfarm owner, Falck Renewables, as well as the countless volunteer hours from passionate, determined members of the local community; applauds the efforts of all the volunteers involved in the Carron Valley Community Woodland, and wishes them continued success in future, and notes that the Scotland’s Finest Woods Awards are run by the independent charity, Scotland’s Finest Woods, and aim to celebrate the contribution that woodlands can make to the people of Scotland and to its environment and economic prosperity, as well as recognise and reward the achievements of people who are working hard to support their local communities and the environment.
