Heriot-Watt University Ranked Top University in Scotland for Graduate Employability

The motion

That the Parliament extends its warmest congratulations to Heriot-Watt University, with campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Dubai and Malaysia, on ranking as Scotland’s top and the UK’s fourth best university for graduate employability in the 2020-21 Graduate Outcome Survey; notes that the survey is the largest annual social survey in the UK, conducted by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), aiming to capture insights into employment destinations and career development of university graduates 15 months after they finish their studies; highlights that HESA found that 85.4% of Heriot-Watt University graduates reach positive destinations by securing full-time employment or pursuing further studies within 15 months of graduation; understands that the university also ranked first in Scotland and second in the UK for postgraduate positive outcomes, with 88.3% of graduates in work or further education within 15 months of graduation; recognises that the university’s achievements are also recognised in the QS World University Rankings 2024, in which Heriot-Watt University reached its highest-ever world ranking, as 32nd in the UK and 235th university in the world; commends the university’s hard work in delivering what it sees as far-reaching positive impact across Scotland and the UK, and wishes Heriot-Watt University’s staff, students and graduates continued success.
