Margaret Halkett, National Youth Work Award Finalist
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Margaret Halkett on being recognised as a Volunteer Youth Worker Award finalist at the Youthlinks National Youth Work Awards 2023, held on 21 June in Glasgow; understands that Margaret volunteers with The BIG Project, which operates in the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh, and supports children and young people aged five to 18 to "learn, achieve, have fun and feel good about themselves"; appreciates that Margaret started volunteering 13 years ago, and that her self-taught expertise and understanding of developmental stages enable her to provide the perfect level of challenge for young people, allowing them to learn new skills and have fun; recognises that Margaret previously won an Inspiring Volunteer award at the Lord Provost of Edinburgh's Inspiring Volunteer of the Year Award 2022 ceremony, for her dedication and passion for youth work; notes that the awards were hosted by Youthlink Scotland, the national agency for youth work that represents more than 100 youth organisation members across Scotland, both voluntary and statutory, and wishes Margaret and The BIG Project further success in continuing to promote activities and interests as part of a wider developmental process to raise aspirations and increase self-esteem.
