Two Sea Lion Pups Born at Blairdrummond Safari Park

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Blairdrummond Safari Park, near Stirling, on the birth of Otis, the park's first ever Californian sea lion pup, and first to be born in Scotland in at least 20 years; notes that this was followed by a second Californian sea lion pup being born; understands that Otis was born on 6 June 2023, at approximately 3.00 am, to mum, Ineke, who will now nurse him for up to a year; further understands that the second, as yet unnamed, Californian sea lion pup was born on 21 June 2023 at 3.00 pm to mum, Luce; notes that Blairdrummond Safari Park had recently completed a state-of-the-art sea lion habitat that included a specialised area for the rearing of pups, with a shallow pool for the young pups to safely splash around and explore, and understands that, although not currently endangered, Californian sea lions rely on a carefully balanced marine environment, which, it believes, is now increasingly under threat, particularly from plastic pollution in the oceans, which everyone can take steps to reduce, through disposing of waste correctly and shopping more sustainably.
