Congratulating Nursing Team from Glasgow on Winning RCN Scotland Team of the Year

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Glasgow-based nursing team from Stobhill Hospital on being named Scotland’s Nursing Team of the Year at the Royal College of Nursing’s Nurse of the Year Awards; recognises the key work that the team does in supporting people with drug and alcohol addiction; understands its ADRS Crisis Outreach Service in Glasgow city was established in 2021 to reduce the increasing number of nonfatal overdoses and drug-related deaths; appreciates the creative approach adopted by the nursing team to engage with vulnerable and high-risk individuals through focused outreach across Glasgow; understands that the team goes beyond its healthcare responsibilities, by providing practical and educational input to families, carers and a variety of support service staff to raise awareness of the impact of alcohol and substance use on a person’s physical and mental health, as well as its effects on wider social networks; recognises that the interventions of the nursing team include training on recognising and managing a drug overdose, providing naloxone and training on its use, and access to recovery or support services across Glasgow, and understands that the nursing team’s inclusive approach has opened opportunities to link with a range of services to engage those that have been identified as high risk or in an alcohol or substance use crisis.
