The motion

That the Parliament recognises that the Scottish Youth Parliament held its 79th sitting in Kirkwall on 2-3 July 2023; welcomes the decision of MSYPs to hold the session in Orkney as a demonstration of the relevance of their work to the entirety of Scotland; congratulates the Scottish Youth Parliament on its work on the four priority issues discussed, which were the right to food, treating drug misuse as a public health issue, educational attainment, and climate change; acknowledges the high standard of debate and discussion during the course of considering members' motions and the various break-out sessions; notes that nominations for the next set of MSYPs are now open until 1 September, and encourages young people to put their names forward for election to these important roles; believes that it is essential that the voices and priorities of young people are heard and reflected in the development of policy and legislation, not least as the Scottish Parliament looks to incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law; commends the Scottish Youth Parliament on its invaluable work in representing young people and making sure that their voices are heard, and wishes all involved every success over the course of what looks set to be another very busy year.
