ReDress the Brave Tartan Launched
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates ReDress on registering the first-ever slow-fashion tartan, ReDress the Brave, with the Scottish Register of Tartans on 4 July 2023; notes that ReDress is a grassroots community interest company in Dumfries, which is run by volunteers and supported by local Scottish artisans; recognises that ReDress promotes ethical approaches to fashion design and that, thanks to its work, Dumfries is now known as a centre for slow fashion; understands that the tartan designer, Jonathan MacKinnon, created the tartan to highlight the importance of slow, sustainable, circular and regenerative approaches to textile and clothing production; further understands that the tartan’s colours symbolise key elements of ReDress’s work and reflects the Southern Uplands landscape of south west Scotland, which includes pink for the wild flowers and hillside heather, representing fashion and creativity, green for forest, coastal and upland landscapes, black for the shadows of hills and forests and to represent community, and yellow for the perfumed coastal gorse and a brighter future; concurs with the ReDress statement that ReDress the Brave is both traditional "but a bit punk", and wishes everyone at ReDress all the best as they promote an exciting approach to fashion that is healthier for both consumers and the environment.
