Congratulating Melissa Rowlands on Being Awarded the RCN Scotland Mental Health Nursing Award

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates and commends Melissa Rowlands, dementia advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) at St John's Hospital in NHS Lothian, for being awarded the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Mental Health Nursing Award; acknowledges Melissa's outstanding contributions to dementia care, specifically her pioneering work in developing the role of the ANP in dementia care to enhance patient care and support diagnosis; recognises her dedication to designing a service that aims to prevent admission and reduce readmission to hospital for people with dementia in care homes, and applauds Melissa for her development of nurse-led clinics, which, it understands, have successfully reduced waiting times for diagnosis, contributing to West Lothian’s achievement of national HEAT targets.
