Royal Gun Salute Celebrates 800th Anniversary of Dumbarton

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dumbarton on its 800th anniversary and commends the Royal Gun Salute that took place on 8 July 2023 to mark the end of the year-long celebrations of the town’s special milestone; acknowledges that Scottish Labour Party councillors from West Dunbartonshire Council attended the event along with council officials, members of Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Armed Forces, residents and history enthusiasts, as well as Lord-Lieutenant Jill Young; thanks members of the 207 Battery Royal Artillery for leading the salute, which provided a fitting end to the 800th anniversary year, and notes that West Dunbartonshire Council had already held a number of events and activities, including a series of successful talks at Dumbarton Heritage Centre celebrating some of the most important objects from the council’s museum collections, as well as undertaking work with West College Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland to deliver activities to mark the occasion, including a special exhibition project.
