The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates everyone who took part in 2023’s Relay for Life fundraising event at Bladnoch Park, near Wigtown, to raise vital money for Cancer Research UK; recognises that cancer survivors, caregivers, teams and supporters battled inclement weather conditions during the 24-hour spectacle, which raised more than £26,000, with more money still coming in; acknowledges the hard work and involvement of the Dumfries and Galloway Relay for Life organising team, headed again by Anne Barclay MBE, who created a party atmosphere throughout the day and night; recognises that the funds raised will help scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, which affects one in two people over their lifetime; notes the amazing role of Cancer Research UK in playing an integral part in efforts to expand knowledge and help develop new treatments, which has meant that more people than ever are successfully treated, including a significant number who make a full recovery; recognises that Relay for Life has been held over the last 15 years, raising a remarkable £650,000, and wishes the charity every success in its fundraising activities in the coming months ahead.
