Young Kirkcudbright Farmer Becomes First Recipient of Fordyce Maxwell Award

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates John McCulloch, a young farmer from Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, on becoming the first ever recipient of the Fordyce Maxwell Award for Agricultural Communications; notes that the trophy was presented by Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) principal professor, Wayne Powell, during the recent Royal Highland Show 2023; recognises that the 24-year-old won the accolade for his dedication and focus in promoting Scottish agriculture through written and video communication, particularly his work to promote the sustainable credentials of the Scottish beef industry; understands that John, a trainee auctioneer, is a former student of SRUC and graduated with an HND in Agriculture in 2021, and that he now plays a leading role as a member of Stewartry Young Farmers, while being chair of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC) Agri and Rural Affairs Committee; remembers the involvement of the late Fordyce Maxwell, who was widely considered one of the best communicators in the agricultural industry before his death in October 2022, and wishes John every success in his career in the coming months and years ahead.
