Three Peaks Challenge in Memory of David Hill

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Alex Service and a group of his friends, including Angus Dykes, Finlay Degnan, Lee Martin, Aaron Gemmell, Josh Gemmell, David Hamilton, Stevie Wright, Christopher Gilbert and Gareth McCall, on raising more than £11,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in a bid to save young lives, after tackling the Three Peaks challenge in June 2023, which involved climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all within 24 hours, travel included; considers this to be a remarkable feat, given the large party number and that only around 40% of people manage it within the time limit; recognises that the charity attempt was in memory of Alex's older sibling, David Hill, who tragically passed away, aged 30, during the Parliamentary Six Nations fixture between Scottish Parliament RFC and the Dail and Seannad RFC, which took place in Dublin in 2022; understands that subsequent medical examinations revealed that David died due to a previously undiagnosed cardiac condition; notes that the David Hill Memorial Fund has been set up by his family and CRY to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death, by supporting a screening programme of young people in Dumfries and Galloway aged 14 to 35, and wishes Alex and the team continued success in their future charity activities.
