Royal Alexandra Hospital Nurse Nominated for Nurse of the Year Award

The motion

That the Parliament understands that Royal Alexandra Hospital nurse, Angela Thomson, has been nominated at the 2023 Scottish Health Awards; notes that Angela, who has worked in the NHS for the last 37 years, has been nominated in the category of Nurse of the Year; celebrates that Angela, who looks after 30 patients on her ward, is dedicated to her role as a nurse, and that the difference that she has made to a countless number of patients has been recognised; understands that she has tirelessly strived to enhance the experience of hospital stays for patients, and has been there for many patients in their final moments; further understands that she has gone the extra mile over the years for patients, including by helping them to prepare Christmas presents for family members during winter hospital stays and, famously, helping to facilitate a wedding day and honeymoon night for a couple after a bride became unwell; notes that the Scottish Health Awards, organised by the Daily Record, NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government, will announce the finalists in October, and award winners on 2 November 2023; wishes Angela the very best of luck as a nominee, and thanks her for her decades of service, and for making that special difference to the lives of her patients.
